It’s nice to know that people are taking notice and not in a small way. ExposeKenosha has exceeded the expectations of its creators quite literally ten thousand times over. The reason for this is that there weren’t any expectations. But now there are. ExposeKenosha expects to continue being the driving force it has become in the very short time since its inception to put the arts community in the forefront of people’s minds.
On Tuesday Tamara Merfeld and I will sit down with Lenny Palmer to talk about the necessity of the arts in Kenosha and the impact that a thriving arts community will have on area businesses. Please call in to the show to share your thoughts and support.
Thank you for the huge support you’ve shown, as a community, for the efforts put forth by the artists involved in this project. Thank you for letting us know, be it via email, a comment on the site, or to our faces, that this is a valued endeavor.
“…For more than a century, the university has been guided by the Wisconsin Idea, a tradition first stated by UW President Charles Van Hise in 1904. Van Hise declared that he would “never be content until the beneficent influence of the university reaches every family in the state.”

According to two recent visitors of Kenosha, Maryo Gard Ewell, past Executive Director of the Colorado Council for Arts and Karen Goeschko, Assistant Director for Programs and Services, Wisconsin Arts Board, Wisconsin has a special way of embracing the Arts and Humanities. They believe our widespread community involvement is based on a century old concept called, “The Wisconsin Idea”Continue reading →
Click the arrow to listen to “Back at the Chicken Shack”
“…we were trying to come up with an idea to make it corky and fun, and there is a blue/black gingham chicken standing there with the band, “Back at the Chicken Shack” is a bluesy fun song …it gives the musicians a chance to jam a little bit, to sound more to what we sound when we are live, its very relaxed…”
New people in a group always bring new perspectives, new talents, new ideas, and a general newness to the group as a whole. I sat down with Meg Walsh and Vince Cook, both first-time actors with the Lakeside Players to chat with them about their journey to Kenosha. I knew how much fun they were on the stage as Mina Seward, the “artery” of Count Dracula’s eye, and Boris Renfield, the resident exterminator and living travelogue, but I didn’t realize how fun they would be off the stage too.
Matt: I know you’ve both been acting for quite some time now. When exactly did you start? Continue reading →

I’m looking for two people who fit the above description for an upcoming holiday monologue show called FA LA LA THIS; twisted tales from a hard candy christmas.
I’m looking for original monologues, about 20 minutes max, more in the vein of Sedaris that Silver Bells. Dark comedy not Courier and Ives…but all are interested to respond. Past monologues have covered such topics as being asian at Christmas, how a tranny got her breasts as an XXXmas gift and white trash memories to name a few. All monologues must be memorized and performed.
Performance dates are December 13, 14, 20, 21, 22 at 8pm upstairs at Carolyn’s 5706 7th Avenue in downtown Kenosha. It’s a great space and we’ll use it well. I’ve got a vintage Christmas slide show and some other tricks up my sleve. You must be able to commit to all 5 performances.
This is the fourth year I have produced/performed in this show and I can tell you it is a lot of fun; the perfect anecdote to the inevitable Ryan Seacrest holiday special. In addition to writing and performing, you will have to help sell the show…you know, pressuiring your friends and family with endless emails, postering your neighborhood…workin’ it.
There may be pay…we can talk about that at a later date. If you are interested, please send me a BRIEF sample of your writing style and what you might have in mind for the show. I want to nail down the other two performers by November 7th so I can push forward with all the marketing stuff (press releases, posters, etc…) Feel free to drop me an email or give me a call with any questions you may have or with a sample of your stuff.
As we continue our mission of promoting arts, cultural events, creative Kenosha residents, as well as the creativity of the business owners in Downtown Kenosha and the surrounding area, ExposeKenosha.com is proud to partner with the Kenosha Lakeshore Business Improvement District (BID).
