I can’t wait! I’m really looking forward to the interview! Everyone, please tune in… These women have very valuable information to share, and Lenny is an excellent interviewer. Thanks, you three!

It seems unfortunate for an artist such as myself and several others who are represented at ArtWorks Gallery in Kenosha and Anderson Art Gallery that these venues were not even mentioned in the radio interview this morning. I tuned in looking forward to hearing how AHA and ExposeKenosha (unfortunate name) are leading the community toward a better appreciation of the Arts. It is extremely important to bring together all artists and not just a small club of artists and celebrate all of the talent we have here. I was hoping that finally the local community could be made aware of all the galleries that represent so many of us. According to your interviewer there is a lack of cohesiveness with artists. Did we prove him correct?

Rebecca,

I do wish that we’d had the opportunity to mention all of the wonderful artists, galleries, and other artistic venues located within our arts community. When Tamara and I left the studio, we smacked our heads with the realization that we hadn’t mentioned one person or organization or another.

Also, I think the fact that you are here and able to voice your concerns about the state of our community is proof that we are not fragmented. That is what this magazine is out to prove.

The word expose has many definitions and with each there is a connotation, whether positive or negative. Here is the definition for the expose of ExposeKenosha.com:
To make visible; bring to view: bare, disclose, display, reveal, show, uncover, unmask, unveil.
Archaic: discover.
Idioms: bring to light, lay open, make plain.

Thank you for sharing your feelings in this matter, and please keep reminding us that we are a community and need to work together for one another.

Tammy Peacy

Yes, I have a dictionary.

I’m a bit puzzled by your comments Rebecca. Though I think I understand to a point. In terms of the radio interview I’ve had experience being interviewed on the air. I think it’s a bit unfair that the Tam’s could have possibly credited everyone on the air. Also, it’s unfortunate you did not attend the AHA! meeting. Over 50 artists and organizations attended including representatives from Anderson, Symphony, Channel 14, Band Boosters, teachers, writers…it was broad and diverse.

It terms of a club, I think it’s a bit early to judge it that way. It was started by a few over the years and growing, it will take time to tell. In terms of the name…I think you have a better sense of humor than that. Positive or negative names are interpreted by the person. I don’t see any connotations that need to be placed on “lemon” for example. You have a dictionary…but did you use it? lol.

I do agree that your comments are great for discussion and to define what the communities expectation and needs are, but I don’t feel that AHA! has fragmentation on it’s agenda and far from that. Personally, I think many of the original art organization even started as clubs, and over the years fragmented themselves making mountains over molehills. Over the last two years I’ve seen the Kenosha art and humanitarian communities working very diligently toward cohesiveness and to being inclusive.

We share news with each other regularly and cooperation. We have all added a spirit and energy that has infused the community. I hope in time that you will feel differently and thank you for your contribution to the art community as a supporter and an artist. You are great example to us all, and I very much appreciate your opinions.

I feel your hurt Rebecca. And I feel Tammy and Franco’s as well. Least we forget dear people, AHA and ExposeKenosha are taking their first steps towards legitimacy and like all toddlers will stumble and fall along the way.

Eventually they will succeed and stand tall in the community of artists, but only with the help of those who care. Sure they didn’t mention every art gallery and person who has helped them up to this point. Realistically, they couldn’t. But that doesn’t mean they don’t care for the makers and shakers who support them. I know they do and the oversight was not intended.

The time will come when we look back on this and laugh at absurdity of it all. Sometimes you have to let the toddler fall before it learns to walk properly.

I find the association with a toddler interesting Rick. I see your point that AHA and ExposeKenosha are just starting out and creating a foundation, however I do not see being on the radio and promoting the arts and humanities as a stumble and fall. Rather I see it as another huge step in keeping the momentum going within the artistic community. Lenny Palmer is a huge supporter of the arts and humanities as well as a great resource.

Let me start by clarifying the purpose for the radio interview yesterday. Our intent was to merely start a dialogue about the arts and humanities in Kenosha. There is an energy, a “buzz” if you will happening in this town and we were on the radio to bring awareness to this energy and buzz. Our intent was not to mention every single arts and humanities, for profit or non profit organization on the air within the hour that we had. The organizations mentioned were only as examples when answering one of Lenny’s questions. There not were mentioned specifically to plug those organizations.

As Rick mentioned AHA! Kenosha as well as ExposeKenosha care very much for those movers and shakers. AHA! Kenosha exists to bring cohesiveness by working with and supporting Kenosha’s thriving artistic community in it’s entirety not just in small groups.

I am excited and hope this dialogue continues so that AHA! Kenosha is able to hear and learn more about what is truly needed by the artistic community in Kenosha.

I hope that puts a different and positive light on things!
