The New Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends”
A Live Radio Cartoon
Saturday, January 26, 2008 11:15 a.m.
Wisconsin’s only LIVE broadcast series of radio dramas and comedies!
The Award Winning* 2007 WGTD Radio Theater Season Three Schedule:
*WBA 2005 Best Special Interest Programming Award
*Wisconsin Bar Association 2006 Golden Gavel Award.
The WGTD Radio Theater opens it’s fourth season with an original episode of the highly popular cartoon series, “Rocky and Bullwinkle.” WGTD, which is the FM public RADIO station, located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, IS A RADIO STATION. Yet, through the magic of RADIO, this January 26th CARTOON treat will be brought to life, all in front of a LIVE audience and a huge listening audience, who can actually tune in on 91.1 FM in Kenosha and Racine, or listen to this cartoon RADIO show on the Internet at www.wgtd.org.
Steven Brown and Michael Ullstrup, both of Salem, penned this original episode, but they actually used a computer’s word processor and not a pen. According to Brown, “Moose and Squirrel…er, Rocky and Bullwinkle have always been one of my favorite TV series of all time. A number of years ago, I had a chance to chat, over a cup of coffee, with Mrs. Jay Ward about how her husband (Jay) got involved with Rocky. All I remember is that Mrs. Ward kept on talking about Frostbite Falls, Minnesota. In any case, we’ll feature most of the famous characters from this historically important television series, replete with Boris Badenov (played by Terry Lawler, of Kenosha) and Natasha Fatale (Victoria Ide, of Kenosha). All I can say is…Hokey Smokes!!”
The role of Bullwinkle J. Moose is played by Racine’s own Gary Stamm, while Vittoria DuMez will handle the role of Rocket J. Squirrel.
Also appearing in this radio cartoon extravaganza will be Mr. Peabody (Cameron Spencer of Kenosha) and Sherman (Young Tyler Farrell from Bristol). This cartoon series was all about a time-traveling dog and his pet boy, Sherman. Using Peabody’s “Wayback Machine”, the pair will take a trip back into time, to hear the real story about how George Washington learned how to love apple pies and not cherry trees.
The third feature during this 45-minute live radio cartoon program is “Dudley Do-Right” (Gary Stamm), with help from Nell (Susanne Wilczek of Kenosha) and that horrible “Snidely Whiplash,” played by Mark Frazer, from Somers.
Original music and those crazy cartoon sound effects are all from the Jay Ward’s audio vault from the “Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle.” Steve Brown is also the audio (that’s technical talk for SOUND) editor.
WGTD Radio Theatre productions are produced live Saturday mornings at 11:15 in the Bioscience and Information Technology Center on the Kenosha campus of Gateway Technical College. You’re invited to tune in or become part of the studio audience by simply walking in and straight back to the studio in Room 120. Admission is free. No tickets or reservations are needed. Cafe 91.1 is open for all live theater broadcasts. This series will be begin its 4th season in 2008, and is Wisconsin’s longest running LIVE broadcast of old time radio, replete with original scripts.
