The Kenosha County Youth As Resources (YAR) was established in 2004 to address the concerns produced by these two statements:
Only 28% of the youth in Kenosha County feel that they are given useful roles in the community. Even more astonishing is that only 24% feel that adults value them.
In response to these statistics, Kenosha County UW-Extension in partnership with the United Way of Kenosha County developed Kenosha County Youth As Resources, a program dedicated to promoting and facilitating youth-led activism in Kenosha County.
The program is offered through the University of Wisconsin Extension. It is a program that provides up to $500.00 in grants four times a year to youths for doing community service projects. Some of the projects have included efforts in area literacy, homelessness, and assisting the elderly.
YAR is currently looking for youth as well as adult board members. They are also looking for grant recipients.
