“There were a total of 346 artists that submitted 922 prints from 44 states for this year’s exhibition. The juror selected 100 prints by 91 artists from 31 states to represent the twenty-first exhibition of original, small format prints.”

Director’s Statement
The very first Parkside National Small Print Exhibition opened March 17, 1987, with fifty-five artists showing their work. It was a modest start, with no promise that the show would continue. Events like the Parkside National are a lot of work and require cooperation from throughout the university, but survive it did, and it has always because of the continued work of dedication of many, along with support from the university and the patrons from throughout the area. As with any event of this nature the truly important piece is the participating artists who persist in producing work that continues to impress and awe the audience…

Juror’s Statement
It is every printmaker’s dream to be in a room filled with exquisite prints. After carefully holding and studying each of the images surrounding me, the group of entries was repeatedly refreshed with a completely new batch of artworks. The sheer number of works (nearly one thousand) caused me to contemplate the rich history of the medium, the beauty of the printed mark and the inspired ideas promoted by those marks. When looking at prints of small size, one is able to focus on the smallest details as well as to take in the entire image all at once. This visual interplay is an exciting exchange of technical and conceptual information…
