Meet Riki Tagliapietra…

by Chet Griffith

rikiart.jpg

Friends should not let friends… interview them.

Chet: O.k. question number one: What is your favorite color?

Riki: Are you serious?

C: Yeah!

R: That’s really it?

C: Yeah, that’s it. You see, I’m setting the bar low, so that there is nowhere else to go but up.

R: I’m gonna go with red.

After that revelatory, earth-shattering beginning I figured it was time to get down to business.

Includes work from: Jules Cheret, Chicago speak easy artist Donald Denton, Chimot, Louis Fortuney, Frederick Hart, Louis Icart, impressionist Henri Lebasque, Andre Derain, Carl Von Marr, Ludovic Rodo Pissarro, Rembrandt, Lobel Riche, Manuel Robbe and August Rodin. Also included in the show are works by leading Wisconsin artists.

“Since the beginning of time when man first drew pictures with a charcoal stick on the walls of his cave, the nude figure was a favorite subject,” notes Bill DeLind, owner of the gallery…”

“Downtown Racine Carves Its Niche.”

by Joe Barr

Mary Osterman of Copacetic, which carries an amazing array of headwear, organized Downtown Racine Carves Its Niche. The ice-sculpting exhibition occurred Jan. 12.
At least 10 300-lb. blocks of ice were distributed outdoors downtown, and carved by a traveling team of ice sculptors who work a circuit that previously has included Lake Geneva and Green Bay.

The participating artists are Joe Haas, Bob Lechtenberg, Emily Lechtenberg, Sarah Lephardt, Scott Johnson, Dick Emmerich, John Haas, Bob Langenohl, Andy Haas Schneider and Mike Lechtenberg.
Both Scott Johnson, who worked in front of Northern Lights, and Andy Haas Schneider, by Copacetic, commented on the high temperature and the softness of the ice, but they eagerly worked their magic and entertained fans large and small.

Kathleen Laybourn, a lovely and gracious Lady, is a Kenosha native and resident and a painter of note. Kathleen recently won awards at KAA’s first Advent Art Show.

Joe: What did it feel like, winning both the first place, and people’s choice awards at the Advent art show?

Kathleen: Unbelievable! It was unbelievably wonderful. I didn’t expect it. That’s for sure. I knew the piece was good, but there are a lot of good artists around. To be singled out like that is always a wonderful thing.

The Power of Creativity

by Colleen Kappeler

Jeanette Stevenson knows the power of creativity. It is a power she calls on daily in her job; helping others create the lives they dream about. Two years ago Jeanette made the life changing decision to become certified as a Life Coach. It was her dream, and one she has never regretted.

For this interview Jeanette slid into the booth at Panera wearing a sweatshirt emblazed with the logo she designed. Everything she does with this job has meaning for her. This feisty, energetic woman is a powerful force and it is easy to see why people all over Kenosha and Racine are coming to her for support, encouragement and the chance to co-create their lives with her.
Most of us have heard of therapists, but Life Coaching is a title that is fairly new to the world. And so I asked her to describe what it is she does.

“For therapy you show up broken. For coaching you show up creative, resourceful and whole. You come because you are ready to make a shift in your life, ready to move toward the life you desire to live.”
