Anne Elisabeth Hogh has a raucous laugh, big, brash blue eyes, and a Danish accent to match it all. Anne Elisabeth, like her artwork, has a honesty you can’t help but enjoy. This one of a kind work really needs to be seen to experience the colors and dimension, and if you happen to be there when Elisabeth is there you may find yourself all wrapped up… literally.

So, where’s the beer?

In the fridge honey, in the fridge!

The first time I saw your work was at the exhibit you had at Lemon Street last year. At first, I think viewers love the bright colors, but then are curious as to how you get your paintings to get the 3 dimensional qualities they have… as if they are growing? How do you do that?

For me, painting is absolutely not what you see– it is a process! As an artist I wear many hats and work in many different materials. I don’t believe that you can paint if you can’t see things from a different perspective. My object is to make the eye see and the mind wonder. If you are not curious to the process along with being pleased, your stimulus has not been satisfied.

How did you discover your style that makes your work so unique?

I fucked up!
I had taken the last piece of canvas and stapled it to the wall in my living room. The result was one of the best paintings that I had ever done! The conquest, how to get it off the wall, the luck, counting on experience with structures the result - paintings on aluminum frames –laced — raw canvas and many layers of paint!

Why is almost all of your work untitled?

I don’t need to tell you what to think. I hope you can do that on your own!

You’ve exhibited in New York, LA, and other parts of the country… anywhere else?

Europe. Duh, I’m Danish!

Have you any perspective you can share with us about the art community, differences between exhibits, galleries, artists, etc.

That you have to pay me for!

Where did you have the most fun? Give me the dirt.

When I received your photos back from the body casting at Bill’s Blues. It was fabulous to get someone else’s perspective!

Of course I don’t mean to imply that you’re only focused on a particular appendage, since you do hands, feet, faces, etc I know there’s lots of bandages, plaster of Paris, Vaseline– I think I had one of those dates– but who gets more aroused, you or the victim?

YOU!

You big B…lol
What is your most memorable artistic moment? Make this good because it’s the end of the interview, baby.

No, that question sucks shit!

LOL…I think it’s time for another beer.

Anne Elisabeth Hogh, you have been “exposed”.

I love Anne’s work, and have several pieces. I always see something new when I look at them, and they seem to take on the colors of the season. As the seasons change, so do the brillance of the colors in her paintings.

AE is the best! I have 2…count ‘em 1…2 pieces of her work and I can always count on them to make me wonder.
And when I welcome new guests into my home,
‘The Lady’ (big painting on my living room wall)
greets them…and I always ask,
“What’s she doing?”
she showers, she blow-dries her hair, celebrates African rituals, wears a chinese head-piece, plays in the rain, rides a broom…
