The Parkside Art Club opened its Annual Juried Student Show last Friday with a delightful mix of youth, energy, and art. Offerings in two and three dimensions, spanning a variety of media, filled the gallery with wonder and obvious talent.
Josh Frazer, President of the Parkside Art Club, presided over the opening and noted the contribution of this years juror, Thomas J. Lidke, Executive Director/Head Curator, Museum of Wisconsin Art.
Josh released a statement celebrating the winners, and we have included some photographs to help you share in the opening, but you should treat yourself, and enjoy all this talent in person.

The prizes where awarded as follows:
Art Club Scholarship ($300) Brent A. Schultz - “unstable”
1st Place ($300 cash) Mike Kaukl - “Cavalier Bodice and Skirt”
2nd Place ($200 cash) Alana Cacciotii - “untitled”
3rd Place ($100 cash) Brad Bathke - “Der Sandman”

Honorable Mentions where awarded a hand bound sketchbook, there where 5 of them:
Zack Fredrics - “Breath”
Kollis Branch - “A man of few words”
Christina Bodi - “Untitled”
Jarad Paisted - “Dionysius - Twice Born”
Kelly Whitte - “Dress”

The Parkside Art Club Juried Student Show gives art students a chance to experience and exhibit in a juried show. The students are not only responsible for having work in the show, they are also responsible for laying it out and hanging it. All of the money for the scholarship and prizes awarded in the show is funded by the Parkside art club itself; with money raised by the events that it holds during the year. (The art club bake sale and the art club raffle) The current show is comprised of work from many different disciplines, almost all of them are offered at Parkside.

My very talented friend Chandra Hauenstein was an artist in this show, and unfortunately, I missed the opening! I’m looking forward to seeing the show soon though! I used to visit the campus gallery a lot when I was a student at UWP, and it was always well worth the visit.

Congratulations to all the students who were included in the show…and a special shout-out to Christina Bodi, Lemon Street Gallery artist-member, our Spring UWP intern and Board Officer. Talent and drive; you’re going places, girlfriend!

I’d Like to thank all of the artist who participated in this years show and everyone who helped make it happen. I’d like to hear from anyone that has any suggestions or comments to help make next years show even better.
