Sandra Nowicki of Pegasus Studios has 16 pieces of 2-dimensional art in a solo exhibit at the Salem Community Library. The exhibit includes paintings in watercolor and gouache tempera, color drawings, pencil drawings and collages using artist-made paper.

When I asked Sandy where her inspiration comes from she replied,

“I am always responding to colors and forms in nature, images at art exhibits, and art history. Ideas and images gel in my mind from many sources and I interpret all this and it emerges as my own original collages, paintings and drawings. I create art as an expression of my inner energy, as symbols of my perception of the world. I can capture feelings and make them into art forms. I love the way collage, painting or drawing allows me to share all this beauty with other people.”

Sandy currently resides in Kenosha County but grew up in Franklin Park, Illinois, and ended up here after college. She wanted to move to the country where she could have horses at home but still be close to cities where she could work in the art field and attend cultural events. She resides with her husband, her dachshund, and three horses that are a large part of her subject matter.

A most notable piece that includes the horses is “Julius and His Mother”. This silver scratchboard has three framed images and is one piece of artwork. Every line is important because nothing can be changed once it has been scratched. This very beautiful piece was voted People’s Choice at the Kenosha Art Associations 2008 Spring Art Event. Sandy also took home 1st Place in the 3-Dimensional category. Congratulations, Sandy!

Speaking of winning . . . Sandy competed in a horseshow with Julius on May 10th. They took home 1st Place in 2 categories, Reinsmenship and Working Pleasure.

Her sweet, friendly and soft-spoken demeanor make her a joy to be around. But it’s her whimsical spirit that makes people her friend. Immense knowledge with attention to detail comes through in her work. Love and passion of not only the subject matter but the craft itself speaks volumes.

You can view her show, entitled “A Celebration of Color”, from May 1st through May 31st at the Salem library on 24615 89th Street in Salem, Wisconsin, Monday through Thursday 9:00 am to 9:00 pm or Friday and Saturday 9:00 am to 4:00.
