Directing Lakeside Players . . .

Laurene Dolan directed the Lakeside Players in “Romance in D”, “Sleeping Beauty and the Beast”, and she will be directing them in the upcoming production of “The Vagina Monologues”.

“The Vagina Monologues” introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices. A six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it”.

This show will be performed in the newly renovated Skinner Hall July 11th/12th and 18th/19th. Friday’s performances are at 7:30 pm and Saturday’s are at 7:30 and 10:00 pm. Dolan wishes to assure patrons that while the stories are on a subject matter that people may be offended by, the content itself is not offensive.

Dolan is an alumnus of Second City and earned her Bachelors of Arts in English (focusing in Shakespearean Drama) from DePaul University in Chicago. Her directing credits include “I’m Getting Murdered in the Morning”, “The Glass Slipper”, and a short film entitled “The Witches”. Her most recent project was a Christmas musical, “The Mouse That Was Stirring”, at Bowen Park Theater at the Jack Benny Center in Waukegan, IL.

Laurene Dolan directed “Romance in D”, which was the last production of the 2007 -2008 season for the Lakeside Players. The cast included:

Getting people to come back to live theater is something Dolan puts at the top of her wish list.
