RG Productions brings the powerful film noir, “THE THIRD MAN” to life as a radio play, complete with live sound effects and zither music. The play, produced in association with the Lakeside Players, will be performed free for festival goers attending Kenosha’s Bloomin’ Days on Saturday, June 7 in downtown Kenosha at 3 p.m. at the Rhode Center for the Arts. An evening performance will also be held at 7 p.m., admission $5.
The production group, who has been performing radio play events in the Kenosha area for the past year, cites Kenosha-born Orson Welles, star of THE THIRD MAN, as one of their major influences. “It’s a huge testament to Welles’ creative talents that he had such a small role in the film, yet his influence was so great. We’re really excited to bring this important film event, which was also a Lux Radio Theater presentation, to life.” says RG producer Nita Hunter.
The group is also looking forward to collaborating with the Lakeside Players and participating in Bloomin’ Days. “We think adding our performance to the phenomenal mix of entertainment available to the people visiting downtown during Bloomin’ Days brings diversity to the event,” says Hunter. “We tend to bring in a mixed crowd of young and old alike, including many senior citizens who remember these radio shows from their youth.”
According to Hunter, one of the biggest draws for their show is the opportunity for audience to hear live zither music. Ruth Valentino, the group’s zither player, has played professionally with the Chicago Zither Orchestra for almost 40 years. She even visited The Third Man Museum in Vienna recently for more zither inspiration!
A Viennese café in the lobby of the Art Deco Rhode Opera House complements the event and coffee and strudel will be available to purchase.
Starring in the event are Kenosha and Northern Illinois actors: Scott Annala, Doug Despin, director, Patti Fitchett, Arsene Gerber, Ed Godula, Rick Hagerty, Philip Jaeger, Jim Kollar, Rich Krapf, Dean Larson, Carrie Messersmith, Jan Michalski, Joan Roehre, Amy-Louise Seyller, Alex Spinner, Dan Stika, Leslie Utech, Ruth Valentino and Mr. George Wertke on the organ!
