Parkside Reunion Big Band featuring vocalist Larry Zarletti
Founded in the early 1990’s by Jack Plovanich and Tim Bell, the Parkside Reunion Big Band was formed to give musicians who attended the University of Wisconsin Parkside a chance to play and socialize on a semi-regular basis. Jack and Tim have been involved in “rehearsal bands” since the mid 1970’s when Tim arrived in Kenosha from Texas.
While there are players who haven’t attended Parkside, many have performed with Tim Bell and the UW Parkside Jazz Ensemble. The band plays a broad variety of music from Count Basie, Woody Herman and Buddy Rich to contemporaries like Matt Harris and Mary Taylor. Tunes from Tim Bell’s extensive library from his days at North Texas State University are included in the program as well. The featured vocalist is hometown favorite Larry Zarletti.
Beautifully located on Lake Michigan, the south grounds of the Anderson Arts Center are the perfect venue for this FREE concert located at 121 66th Street in Kenosha. The grounds open at 6:00 p.m. and the show runs from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Food and beverages are available for purchase and a 50/50 raffle will be held to benefit the Anderson Arts Center. Please bring a blanket or lawn chair.
Don Gillespie, who loves jazz music and thought it would be great to start a jazz concert series, began this venue which is now in its seventh year. At first the performances were held inside in the east gallery. It has now grown to five performances with crowds numbering 500 to 800 each night. The Anderson Arts Center is very grateful to Don for this idea. The Twilight Jazz organizers are grateful to the sponsors as well, and as sponsors increase in future years, the number of performances can also grow.
For the rest of the series’ dates and performers, or for directions and other information, visit their website at www.andersonartscenter.com or call 262-653-0481.
