Autumn is often a bittersweet time here in our corner of Wisconsin. In one regard, we have the chance to enjoy some wonderful fall constants: the striking beauty of the changing trees and the musky smell of burning leaves that is, to me, the quintessential “fall fragrance”. We know that the crisp air means that inevitably, winter will soon arrive though, and some of the warmer weather activities we enjoy will have to wait until spring. The HarborMarket has long been one of those that we have to bid farewell to in the late fall. From 6:00-9:00 PM, this area will sparkle with giant, electric snowflakes on light poles, illuminating a new lakefront event. The event features electric streetcar rides with Santa Claus; sing-alongs on a rubber-tired trolley; face-painting; caricature artistry; arts and crafts; live music; magicians and other performers; food and treats; and special sales and activities at businesses throughout the Downtown/Harborside area.

The Hal Onserud Trio at The Nook . . .

Listen to the sound of the Hal Onserud Trio.

On Sunday, November 23, at The Nook Café & Gallery, Hal played with Rami Gabriel on guitar and electronics and Rob Wallace on drums and percussion. The Trio played the music, songs and poems of Hal Onserud, improvising and tweaking their instruments to produce interesting music that went from symphonic to abstract.

“… For a musician, there are also passages. Forming your first band, playing out in front of a real crowd, and putting out a CD are all high-water marks for musicians -one that is rarely reached - is when the artist drops the day job and becomes a full-time musician.

Mark Harrod reached that milestone this month.
… Although he’ll now be spending his days recording, writing, booking shows and working the web. Harrod also admits that he’s craving meaningful conversation. You can contact him via his website, www.marharrodmusic.com
