The Artists Gallery, 401 Main Street in Racine will feature the work of Metal Sculptor Ed Janecek during the month of June, 2009 and celebrate with a public reception on Friday, June 5th from 6 to 9pm during Downtown Racine’s First Friday Public Event.
Ed Janecek is a Tool and Die Maker and teaches manufacturing processes at a local technical college. Janecek’s sculptures are mostly inspired by nature, machinery and anatomy. Every object of art is made one piece at a time. Janecek says
“When ferrous materials have outlived their usefulness as agricultural implements, structural members, and tools of industry, they can begin a new life as objects of art - provoking thought, inspiring more creations, perhaps leaving a question unanswered.”
Most of Janecek’s materials come from farm salvage yards. “I use hot processes to cut, bend, form and join different types of steel and cast iron. Some pieces are buffed with a wire wheel and protected with a clear finish and others are left to rust.”
Ed Janecek will be featured Artist of the Month during June at Artist Gallery, 401 Main Street in downtown Racine. An extended collection of his work will be shown and is also available online at www.skyironart.com. The public is invited to meet Ed at the gallery on June 5th during First Friday.
The Artists Gallery is an artist owned cooperative showcasing nearly 40 artists from SE Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Hours are 11-5pm Wednesday thru Saturday and 1-4pm on Sunday. For information please call 262-635-9332 or www.ag-racine.org
