February 17th, 2008 — Kenosha Mayor Candidate, AHA! Kenosha, ExposeKenosha, Kenosha

1. What are you going to do to foster the arts, artistic and cultural endeavors in our community?…
Thank you for sending me your questions concerning the CREATIVE CLASS. Since all six questions are related I will attempt to answer them together.
It is my belief that if Kenosha is to ever be the “Destination” Place that everybody has attempted to make it, especially with the development of our Harbor Park area, we will have to include more than a Civil War Museum and a Trolley. And I will agree that we can make this a very profitable endeavor for all of our fine citizens, however, we have to create a marketing plan which will be first rate.
Unlike other cities that are surrounded by populated communities offering easy access to their destination, providing plenty of parking, Kenosha is somewhat at a disadvantage because we have nothing to our east but water. Continue reading →
February 17th, 2008 — Kenosha Mayor Candidate, AHA! Kenosha, ExposeKenosha, Kenosha

1. What are you going to do to foster the arts, artistic and cultural endeavors in our community?
The Mayor has an obligation to foster the creative expression within this city. As an artist myself, I understand the importance of providing support to artists in all stages of their career development. This support can be monetary, but the real support also comes in the form of the intangibles. These intangibles include everything from getting space for a traveling art exhibits, being a voice in local programs that teach art (KYF, Boys/Girl Club & Lemon Street) and to inviting leaders in the world of art to Kenosha to infuse passion into our city’s culture.

1. What are you going to do to foster the arts, artistic and cultural endeavors in our community?
I believe the arts, artistic and cultural endeavors available to the citizens of any community say a lot about the health of that community. As a community it is vital that we devote resources to our creative energies. If roads and infrastructure are the lifeblood of the city, the arts represent our self-esteem. A strong commitment to the arts gives citizens ways to express their emotions in creative and productive ways. Continue reading →

“…For more than a century, the university has been guided by the Wisconsin Idea, a tradition first stated by UW President Charles Van Hise in 1904. Van Hise declared that he would “never be content until the beneficent influence of the university reaches every family in the state.”
