February 1st, 2010 — Arts Wisconsin, Wisconsin Arts Board, Arts Collaboration, Art Events, Artists

By Lisa Adamowicz Kless
This past Saturday at the Sixteenth Street Studio in Racine, the Wisconsin Arts Board sponsored an open forum discussion concerning the local arts scene. The Arts Board’s Grants Program and Services Specialist, Mark J, Fraire, facilitated the meeting, which drew a good number of participants from both the Kenosha and Racine area. A wide range of artistic categories were represented, and subjects from getting the public excited about art to the economic challenges faced by full-time artists were discussed. There were several calls to action made, one in particular involving the creation of a comprehensive arts directory for the area. The majority of those in attendance seemed to agree that if artists from Kenosha and Racine could begin working together and collaborating more, a greater arts community can emerge.
The Wisconsin Arts Board plans to hold monthly meetings similar to this, in order to get to know more about the artistic community in southeast Wisconsin and how they can better promote and support the arts. Stay tuned to Expose Kenosha in coming weeks for more information on specific meeting places and times.
