The Most Important Decision of Your Life…

Increasingly, the place you choose to live will help determine your success in business, in finding a life partner, and in living a fulfilling life. In fact, it may be the most important decision of your life.
I believe that we are in the beginnings of a shift as fundamental as the industrial revolution was over a century ago—one that will have as dramatic an impact on how people live and work. Furthermore, it will have a dramatic impact on where they live and work.

Here’s why:

Kate Falluca’s- “Southwest Enchantments”

katefalluca-opening.jpg

“…The images in my exhibit are inspiring! They capture hundreds of years of history and culture, they are unique in that I captured some in unique angles, and they are not this area. It is something different to look at for people who live here and a reminder of memories for those who have been there to visit…”
~Kate Falluca

Congratulations to Kate on her solo show at Lemon Street, If you missed this Friday, you can still enjoy her photography; the exhibit will run until January 20.

Meet Kate Falluca

by Franco Tarsitano

aztecruins.jpg

Kate Fallucca and her photography are a wonderful addition to the Kenosha art community. From the moment she arrived to our city her exuberance has involved her in Lemon Street Gallery, the board of the Kenosha Art Association, and helping out where ever she can like at the Pollard Gallery. The first day I met her at Lemon Street her energy overwhelmed me. Her work reveals a connection with nature and the out-of-doors. Frequently, looking at her photography makes you wish you could have been traveling with her.

Franco: Tell me a bit about where you’re from and your travels and what brought you to Kenosha. Continue reading →

My interview with me

by Colleen Kappeler
colleen200.jpg

Since the beginning of this e-zine,
I have been referring writers to Francisco to do the interviews on these fascinating local artists. Since the beginning, he’s been asking me to do an interview on myself. On myself? That seemed so shameless. And then he asked again, and then again. Finally I agreed. My friend and colleague Tammy Peacy was nearby when I said ok. She thought this was a great idea and said, “You’ll probably learn a lot about yourself!”

“Are you kidding?” I said, “I am so sick of learning about myself that if I have to spend one more minute alone with me I might throw up!”

But alas, a promise is a promise, so here goes my interview with me! Continue reading →

Franco, Franco, Franco…

Side B- by Tammy Peacy

francotarsitanotartare.jpg

Franco the Painter. Franco the Collaborator. Franco the Rescuer. Franco, Franco, Franco.

there is so much happening in Kenosha right now, in terms of the art community and their vision of really having a place in downtown. I guess I just want people to realize how realistic it is. It’s not like a dream any more, it’s not a vision. It’s really, really happening.

A Raw Look into the Life of an Artist Side A
by Tammy Peacy

From Kenosha to San Francisco to Boston to San Francisco to Honolulu to San Diego and back again, Franco Tarsitano opens his life in art to interviewer Tammy Peacy.

franco.jpgI recently met with photographer, painter, infectious laugh producer, gallery manager, dry martini drinker Franco Tarsitano at Pazzo’s where he sealed his fate as my B.F.F. (and ever) by saving me from a hideous insect and telling me I look twenty-three.

His life has been multifarious to say the least. He’s performed cabaret, run a modeling agency, been a lifeguard, a photographer and the personnel assistant for National Onion Singing Telegrams. Now after thirty years away, Franco has returned to Kenosha and found a new place to call home in the Lemon Street Gallery. Continue reading →

Meet Melanie Hovey

by Tammy Peacy

melaniehovey.jpg

Franco Tarsitano calls Melanie Hovey the Mother of Art in Kenosha. This is a term she isn’t entirely comfortable with.

“I don’t say the Mother of Art… That seems like a kind of lofty position,” says Melanie, “I’m more like the mother to the artists’. I’m the go-to person.”

Melanie, a painter and stained glass artist, is the founder and director of Lemon Street Gallery, Continue reading →
