“Be Exposed!” is proud to announce that award-winning visual artist Rebecca Venn will be among the featured artists at their debut show. Rebecca was born in Owensboro, Kentucky. She graduated with a BA from Brescia College, Owensboro, Kentucky in 1969, and concluded early in her studies that the human figure was her primary interest. As her undergraduate education offered little in this area, she undertook a long period of self-directed study in figurative drawing and painting. Ms. Venn has taught life studio at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and various life drawing workshops. She is a member of Wisconsin Visual Artists, MARN, AHA! and is represented at Artists’ Gallery, Racine, Wisconsin, Seebeck Gallery, Kenosha, Wisconsin, and The Norman Lasiter Gallery in Palm Springs California; her work is included in a number of private collections. Her studio is located in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Most recently, her work is being showcased at Carolyn’s Coffee Connection as part of the “Secret Gardens” exhibition.

The “Be Exposed!” performance series is a new free monthly event, shining a spotlight on creative people from our own city and beyond. The founders hold a common belief that art and creativity in all of its forms should be easily accessible to everyone. They hope that the series will serve to celebrate the power of creativity and a shared love of the arts. Shows will be held every third Friday of the month, and begin at 7 p.m. at Carolyn’s Coffee Connection. They are free and open to the public. The first show will be held on Friday, February 19th. Please mark your calendars and join us as we celebrate the start of this new series!

An exciting new performance series, “Be Exposed!“, is launching in Kenosha on Friday, Feb. 19th. The event will feature poets, musicians, visual artists, and other creative people.

“Be Exposed!” began with a group of friends from different artistic backgrounds: visual artists Catherine Patin and Francisco Loyola, writers Lisa Adamowicz Kless and Jen Sepanski and actor Brent Allen Caputo. They wanted to combine elements from art shows, concerts and poetry readings into one event. Brent Allen Caputo said, “There’s nothing like sharing your ideas with other artists, and to allow an open window for creating a series such as this.”

The performance series, which takes inspiration from and will have some collaboration with “BONK!” in Racine, is the spirit of the Expose Kenosha website in a live format, shining a spotlight on creative people from our own city and beyond. The founders hold a common belief that art and creativity in all of its forms should be easily accessible to everyone. They hope that the series will serve to celebrate the power of creativity and a shared love of the arts. Catherine Patin adds that she hopes that the series “…will enable the audience to become acquainted with the exceptionally talented artists in the area, while forming a network in which the artistic community can collaborate.”

Featured artists for the first “Be Exposed!” show will include visual artist Rebecca Venn, poet Nick Demske, and musician Brent Mitchell. At the end of the evening, there will be a Q&A session for the audience to interact with the performers.

Sponsored by ExposeKenosha.com, Carolyn’s Coffee Connection and the Kenosha Writers’ Guild, the series will be held every third Friday of the month, and feature not only local artists, but national talent as well. Shows begin at 7 p.m. at Carolyn’s Coffee Connection and are free and open to the public.

Brent Mitchell’s music is steeped in his own experiences, even when it is not autobiographical. He grew up a longhaired kid in a Texas town in the Vietnam War years. He lived in his poet father’s bachelor pad, and accompanied him most every night from a very young age to jazz clubs, honky tonk dance halls and blues joints. He’s played every kind of music venue from house concerts to dance halls. This year his song, Hand of God, as sung by Austin’s Bonnie Whitmore got a grammy listing. He has never recorded the song himself, but has recorded three CDs full of great songs; Reciting Whitman to the Cows, Fallen Angel Palace, and a new CD that is self titled. He has shared the stage with many well known Texas Americana artists such as Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Slaid Cleeves, as well as a number of mainstream acts.
