March 29th, 2010 — John Bloner Jr., Bonk

From John Bloner Jr.
“. . .The missus and I attended our very first Bonk! performance last Saturday at Racine Arts Council. Like BeExposed!, Bonk! proved to not only be tremendously entertaining but also educational, i.e., educational in a chocolate and not a brussels sprout kind of way.
From 12-string guitarist Worth Hawes, who walks the string…s like Leo Kottke, I learned of Philip Simmons, who, at age 35, was dealt the news he had ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease. Simmons wrote “Learning To Fall: The Blessings of an Imperfect Life”, of which Publishers Weekly said “offers no easy solutions to dealing with suffering and sorrow, but it does chronicle how the experience of living at the edge can become an extraordinary connection to the eternal.” From Hawes, I also learned that John Stropes is from Racine. Stropes created the world’s only college-level program in fingerstyle guitar. www.stropes.com Bows and salutations to Nick Demske and the whole Bonk! experience...”

“The time has come, friends. BONK! 18 goes down this Saturday and it is going to be a really excellent time. The poets and musician we have lined up are stellar, and I’m pleased to announce this Saturday will be the first BONK! event where all the acts will be introduced by a different member of the BONK! community. This month, our BONK! announcers will be Estreya Vasquez, Martice Scales and Rob…I honestly don’t know what Rob’s last name is, so you’ll have to come to BONK! to find out : ) Visit the BONK! site for any further details:
Also, take note that the next month’s (April’s) BONK! is NOT on the 4th Saturday of the month as usual, due to scheduling difficulties, but on the second Saturday of the month (Saturday, April 10th). We’ve got a monster line up for that night as well, but you’ll have to check the BONK! site if you want to know more.
See you at BONK! this Saturday. And, then, see you at BONK! again on April 10th.”
