by Joe Barr

A large, enthusiastic, and steadily moving crowd displayed civic spirit and good taste as they enjoyed a delicious array of soups offered by eight good-citizen restaurants at both the noon and evening edition of this year’s Bowls and Books. Laughter and music, auctions and prizes were notable at this well orchestrated festive occasion.
The noon restaurants included Fiesta Catering, Francine’s Catering, Franks Diner, Gateway Café, Marina Garden, Pazzo, Savannah’s Café, and Victoria’s Nautical Inn. In the tasting competition, Fiesta Catering was first, Franks Diner came in second, and Savannah’s Café finish third.
The evening featured Boat House Pub, Coffee Pot, Mangia’s Trattoria, Mo’s Café, Secret Garden Café, TG’s Pub, Twisted Cuisine, and Wine Knot. The Coffee Pot ranked first, TG’s won second, and Twisted Cuisine rated a third finish.
Each and every restaurant deserves our thanks and patronage for their time and efforts, offered with style and charm, to help further the renovation of the historic Rhode.

The winners were at noon: Fiesta Catering, Franks Diner and Savannah’s; in the evening were: The Coffee Pot, TGs and Twisted Cuisine.
