The Art Calendar Studio Makeover Contest is FREE to enter and runs from May 1, 2009 until July 31, 2009. Three winners will be selected and announced in the October 2009 issue of Art Calendar!

Grand Prize - $8,500+ in prizes

Third Prize - $400+ in prizes

All winners will also be included in an editorial feature in the November 2009 issue of Art Calendar!

This exhibition will showcase the work of photographers, illustrators, graphic and 2D artists who have used language, narration, poems, or words as part of their images. This includes longer captions, poems, isolated words, lettering or implied lettering. Words, language or lettering can appear on the image, or as caption.

Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters Launches Cartoon Caption Contest

The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Newspaper Association and WisPolitics.com, invites Wisconsin residents to participate in a cartoon caption contest as part of the September 2008 Academy Evenings Miniseries, “Getting to Purple: Beyond the Red and Blue of Partisan Politics.”

Stuart Carlson, Universal Press Syndicate cartoonist and former Milwaukee Journal Sentinel cartoonist, created a political cartoon that needs a caption. Participants are invited to provide their own caption by clicking the link below. All captions must be received by September 4, 2008.

Three finalists will be selected from all eligible caption submissions by Academy judges. Beginning September 8, the cartoon and finalists’ captions will be posted on the Academy website and at WisPolitics.com, and made available to media statewide. Wisconsin residents over age 18 will be eligible to cast a single vote for their favorite caption.
