by Franco Tarsitano

This is the first in a series of interviews with people in Kenosha who may not necessarily be artists, but through their life experience, actions, and their dedicated work ethic make this a better place for the artist community.

Ray Forgianni, a life long resident of Kenosha, and his wife Carole, keep so busy that you sometimes wonder if they’ve been cloned.
Ray, one of the founders the Harbor Market, AHA! Kenosha (it’s current president), as well as, being actively involved with the Kenosha Community Foundation Arts Fund, Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation, The Greater Milwaukee Cultural Alliance and the Kenosha Cigar Club (there is an art to rolling a good cigar), his interest in urban design makes Ray a very sought after person to work with.

Little Playhouses . . .

by Rick McCluskey

smallhouses.jpg

When someone mentions the word playhouse to me, I think of cute little dollhouses. Those Disney castle versions, maybe 2 feet by 3 feet with the back open so dolls and furniture can be moved in and out by my granddaughter or one of her friends over for a visit. Imaging one slightly larger, oh, say in the range of eight feet by ten feet by ten feet, has never crossed my mind. I mean who would build something like that?

Jerde Builders would. Continue reading →

Water ~ Show Submissions . . .

ArtWorks is calling all artists to submit work to “Water.”

water.jpg

Water is essential. The importance of water is obvious and universal, yet it can embody a deeply personal and sometimes spiritual significance. It enables life, but can also take it away. It is in this duality that artists have found inspiration. Whether literal or symbolic “water” is the theme to this show.

Water is open to artists working in all media (some size and weight restrictions apply). We will accept up to 3 pieces per artist and there is a flat $10 fee to enter. We will accept and display the best work from all entries. The submission deadline is June 9th. Additional details and a show prospectus is available at our website: www.artworks-kenosha.com

Welcome to the Write-a-thon . . .

write-a-thon.jpgLibrary Hosts Community Write-a-thon

There will be an informational meeting open to anyone interested, which will take place on Tuesday, May 27th, at 5:30pm at the Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh St.

The Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh St., invites community members of all ages to participate in their first ever Write-a-thon, June 9th-14th, in which participants will raise money not only for the Library, but for furthering their own interests in the arts.
Participants will ask friends, family or local businesses to sponsor them to write a certain quantity or amount. Since many forms of writing can only be judged subjectively, sponsorship will be based off of number of pages written, word count, time spent writing or another kind of quantitative measurement. Half of the money raised will go to the Library to include more titles in their poetry section and the other half will go to the writer to further their endeavors in the arts. All members of the local community are encouraged to join the Library for this program, regardless of age or writing experience. For the week of the write-a-thon, during the Library’s regular business hours, the Library will provide a space for participants to write together in an effort to not only meet the writing goals their sponsors set for them, but to congregate with each other and make further connections within their artistic community. The Michel Petrucciani Trio . . .

The Michel Petrucciani Trio performing live at Live at Münchener Klaviersommer 1998 ~ Via Steinway Musical

Michel Petrucciani (December 28, 1962, Orange, France – January 6, 1999, New York City, USA), was a French Jazz pianist.

Michel Petrucciani came from an Italo-French family with a musical background. His father “Tony” played guitar and his brother Louis played bass. Michel was born with osteogenesis imperfecta which is a genetic disease that causes brittle bones and in his case short stature. It is also often linked to pulmonary ailments. In his early career his father and brother occasionally carried him, literally, because he could not walk far on his own unaided. In certain respects though he considered it an advantage as it got rid of distractions, like sports, that other boys tended to become involved in. Continue reading →
