Featuring a KUSD Student Art Exhibit
The twenty-third annual Festival of Arts and Flowers will be presented in the beautiful Lincoln Park floral garden on Sunday, July 19 from noon until 6:00 P.M. The public is welcome to this FREE event of art and entertainment. Festivalgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and spend the afternoon enjoying art work, varied family activities and non-stop live entertainment.
Gregory Berg, Fine Arts Director of radio station WGTD 91.1 FM as well as WGTD’s News Director, Dave McGrath will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
The annual festival showcases the work of Kenosha Unified School District’s youth in the visual and performing arts. The festival will feature over one thousand juried student art works in the pavilion as well as non-stop entertainment on the outdoor stage. Exceptional art work will be recognized with several awards: elementary art work selected for display will receive
an Award of Merit; invited judges will award middle school and high school art work ribbons of Excellence, Distinction or Merit; and several departments within the City of Kenosha and the Kenosha Unified School District will select middle school and high school art work for the Collection Awards. Awarding departments include the Office of the Mayor of the City of
Kenosha; Kenosha Parks Commission; KUSD Superintendent; KUSD Board of Education; and the KUSD Fine Arts Department. The Kenosha Art Association and the Lemon Street Gallery will award several scholarships at the juried art exhibit.
Live presentations featuring local horticulturists will be offered throughout the afternoon sponsored by Keep Kenosha Beautiful. In addition, the Kenosha Public Library will be on location along with a variety of art-making opportunities for children sponsored by the Kenosha Art Association and the KUSD Fine Arts Department will take place throughout the day.
Featured attractions on the performance stage will include the Parkside Reunion Big Band at 12:15; the ShowTimers at 1:20; the KUSD Summer Advanced Orchestra at 1:50;. the K-L Summer Recreation Band at 2:30; the Voices and Strings from Mexico at 3:00 followed by the KUSD Continental and Rambler Summer Recreation Bands, at 4:10 and 4:50, respectively.
Bratwurst, hot dogs, cold drinks and snacks will be available through a food concession operated by the Kenosha Band Boosters, or festival goers may choose to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the relaxed setting of the nationally acclaimed Warren Taylor Floral Gardens.
The Kenosha Unified School District Department of Fine Arts and the City of Kenosha Parks Department sponsor the festival, which is free to the public.
