HarborPark Jazz and Blues Festival
Saturday, August, 21st
This Saturday, August 21st, is the 7th annual HarborPark Jazz and Blues Fest on the lakefront. Musicians include Nabori, who performs at 5:00, Tremper’s Golden Strings, who will play throughout the crowd beginning at 6:45, and headliner Marion Meadows, who takes the stage at 7:30. Food and beverage vendors will also be on site.
“Considered one of Kenosha’s favorite music events, this festival has welcomed many national and regional jazz and blues artists and attracted thousands of concertgoers to Kenosha’s scenic lakefront.”
Families are welcome; children are encouraged to run around, dance, and sing. A special V.I.P. area is also available and includes a meal and drinks sponsored by Texas Roadhouse.
But this is not just your average concert – it is a huge fundraiser for the Mary Lou and Arthur Mahone Fund, a unique organization in Kenosha that exists to save lives right here in town. The Mary Lou and Arthur Mahone Fund exists as a tribute to both Mahones and the gifts they shared during their lives. Mary Lou Mahone played a big role in Kenosha as a dedicated leader and activist to her community. She achieved so much in her life, from being the first black PTA President in Kenosha to being a charter member of the Boys and Girls Club. “She was also a strong guiding spirit, bounding people with love and prayer. In her private life she was a lover of literature and music, a gourmet cook, and a keeper of African-American culture.” Her husband Arthur was also a giving human being dedicated to improving the lives of those around him. Due to Mary Lou’s life work, Kenosha is a better city for everyone. The mission of the foundation is “to promote opportunities for economically or academic- ally disadvantaged youth and support Breast and Cervical cancer initiatives for economically disadvantaged women.” So the money raised at this concert goes right back into supporting the children and women in our town.
Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.mahonefund.org/ and at these Kenosha outlets: Tenuta’s Delicatessen, 3203 52nd Street; Andrea’s, 2401 60th Street; Lemon Street Gallery, 4601 Sheridan Road; and Kenosha Community Foundation, 600 52nd Street, Suite 110.
Lawn seat tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Students and seniors are $15. V.I.P. seats are $60.
