October 7th, 2009 — Kemper Center, Kenosha History Center, RG Audio Productions, ExposeKenosha

Join RG Productions, a popular Kenosha radio theatre company, for a special recreation of Orson Welles’ infamous radio broadcast War of the Worlds on October 17 and 24th. Recreating the frenzied pace and convincing details, RG Productions makes it clear just why the story is truly the mother of all space invasions. Originally performed by Welles’ Mercury Theater-of-the-Air, the 1938 live 60-minute broadcast of an “eyewitness report” of an invasion from Mars caused a nationwide panic.
Under the leadership of Producing Director Nita Hunter, the show will place the actors on stage as if they were broadcasting from the CBS studios on Madison Avenue in New York City. As in the original production, Orson Welles serves as both narrator and main character and will be portrayed by local actor Jan Michalski.
“The time is right for RG Productions to take on this iconic broadcast,” says Hunter. “We have two unique venues in Kenosha, the History Center with an authentic 1930’s backdrop and Kemper Hall, sometimes thought of as Kenosha’s most haunted venue.”
The Saturday, October 17 premier event will be held at 7 p.m.at the Kenosha History Center, 220 51st Pl, Kenosha. Tickets are $10 and include seating in the round, snacks and an open bar. Seating is limited. Call (262) 654-5770 for advance tickets. Visa and Mastercard accepted.
The Saturday, October 24 performance will be held at 7 p.m. at Kemper Center, 6501 3rd Ave., Kenosha. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door. A special bonus performance of Edgar Allen Poe will be performed by Doug Despin. For more information, call (847) 710-2027. Continue reading →
