July 14th, 2009 — Joan Stanich, Northern Lights Gallery, EK90, RACINE GALLERY NIGHT, Racine, ExposeKenosha

Northern Lights Gallery will be holding an Artist Reception for Kenosha Oil Painter Joan Stanich on Saturday evening, July 18 from 6-9pm during Racine Gallery Night.
Kenosha resident Joan Stanich began painting as a pastime, beginning with watercolor, however finding it was not bold enough to express her preference for more vibrancy in her work. She quickly moved to acrylic and then to oil where she found a medium that captured her vision. Her subjects are varied, with landscapes and architecture appearing most often, she utilizes thick layers of paint, straight from the tube, to create her idea of the small detail she sees for her masterpiece. She enjoys the challenge of realism, and paints with an impressionistic flair, using drastic changes in contrast with dramatic lights and darks in the same composition. A sense of history and appreciation of nature and the places she has visited provide the inspiration for the images she creates.
During the reception, enjoy the music of classical guitarists, Andrew Lardner, a teaching assistant in the music department at UW Milwaukee.
