Nick Demske is the featured literary artist for the first BeExposed! performance series show on Friday, February 19th. Nick works at the Racine Public Library and is curator of the BONK! performance series. He’s also the editor of the online forum boo: a journal of terrific things. Most recently, Nick got the exciting news that his self-titled manuscript was announced as the winner of Fence Books’ 2010 Fence Modern Poets Series, and will be published in the fall of 2010.

CARTHAGE POETS READING

The Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh St., is hosting an evening of poetry reading in a spring poetry showcase event on Tuesday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adult Services Dept. The library will feature Poets of Distinction: Spotlight Carthage College with readings from the local college’s recent poetry graduates.
The line up includes:

April 5th, 2009 — Poetry Roundtable, EK79, Racine Public Library, JavaVino, ExposeKenosha
Sponsored by the Racine Public Library, The Poetry Roundtables are a monthly event held at Java Vino wine and coffee shop ( 424 Main St. downtown Racine) and sponsored by the RPL. This is a program free to the public in which, each month, the works of a different contemporary poet will be read and discussed in a setting conducive to individuals with varied levels of poetry experience . Photocopies of the poetry will be provided at the event, but it is recommended participants review some of the work in advance.
This month’s Poetry Roundtable will be Saturday, April 11th. Contact Nick Demske for more details.
This month they’ll be looking at the work of K. Silem Mohammad.

Nick Demske, Nick Ravnikar and Matt Specht, have created an amazing entity. “Thing” doesn’t fit; “event” seems too dull. Entity is the only word I come up with to describe this spirited gathering of some of the best and brightest talent in the area. Yes, this is technically a Racine event. But one’s enjoyment of amazing art shouldn’t have borders or boundaries placed upon it. So put aside any feelings of “us vs. them”; BONK! showcases four artists each month, and the mix of what they have to offer the audience is varied and exciting. Film, music, poetry, dance…even a singing accordion player! Lest you think that’s all BONK! is about, I’ve heard that there are many more surprises and unique experiences in store for the future.
