ArtWorks presents “Water.”

Water is essential. The importance of water is obvious and universal, yet it can embody a deeply personal and sometimes spiritual significance. It enables life, but can also take it away. It is in this duality that artists have found inspiration. Whether literal or symbolic “water” is the theme to this show.
Do not miss the opening reception of “Water” at Art-Works Kenosha.

December 9th, 2007 — Shows, Visual, Writers, Kenosha, Visual Artist

716: Fine Art in Racine presents “Chicks on Heels” a solo show featuring Francisco Loyola.
Continuing with his combined use of technology, traditional media, and unconventional subjects, Francisco Loyola is presenting a humorous series of 12 large format digital collages representing chickens and roosters wearing high heels.
The title of the show “Chicks on Heels” was coined by Carole Crawford from the “Pat Crawford Jazz Quintet” of Kenosha, and was inspired by the blue chicken that decorates the cover of the quintet’s latest CD “Back at the Chicken Shack”.
In addition, Francisco is releasing, in collaboration with Tammy Peacy and S’zanne M’Chel from the Kenosha Writers’ Group, a calendar and a series of postcards with one liners that are sure to make you smile.
The exhibit is going to run from December 13, 2007 through January, 8 2008. The opening reception is Friday December 14, from 6-9pm
716: Fine Art Gallery is located at 401 Main Street in Racine

November 18th, 2007 — Visual, Model, Kenosha
by Tammy Peacy

“There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud became more painful than the risk it took to blossom”
- Anais Nin
The intent of this interview was for me to learn something new about a woman I know and admire. I also learned a few things about myself.
I attended an open draw in which Chelle Krome was the model. I wasn’t there as an artist, but as an observer, a learner. I thought I would be uncomfortable seeing an acquaintance sans clothing. I sat at the table, real artists on either side of me, and held my breath. As it turned out I was more shocked to see her without her glasses than I was to see her nude. And I actually did draw her (or something that could maybe be her if you’re squinting).
Her body was as she describes: the body of the mother of four children, the body that has nourished and nurtured; the body of a woman.
Tammy: So, the first question on my list is, did you grow up in Kenosha?
Chelle: Yes, I did.
T: Always lived here?
C: Um, I was born in Chicago, but that’s only because that’s where my parents happened to be living at the time. My mother is from here and my father is a Detroit Italian, which apparently has much connotation that I have never quite figured out.
